Russian Roulette: One Life Novels & Stories

A game that required someone willing to risk their life. Russian Roulette. He laughed. I'll never forget that laugh. The head of the Southerns chuckled and said, “You’re an interesting young woman. I’ll play this game with you, but only if you promise not to chicken out.” I smiled and nodded. One bullet loaded, five empty chambers. I was betting my life on it for Lucian. But I felt confident. My father had taught me to be strong, bold, even savage when necessary. The game began. Five minutes later, we’d shot four blanks, and there were two chambers left. One contained a bullet; the other was empty. I didn’t flinch, but the head of the Southerns did.

"To Susan Gardner, you're just a maid. Don't even think about reaching above your station. I'll give you five dollars. Take it and leave. Don't ever come looking for me again." "I had your handwriting professionally verified, Mr. Lowe Senior," I said. Harlan's body swayed slightly. He reached out and grabbed the podium to steady himself. At that moment, Mildred stood up from below the stage and shrilled, "Nonsense! It's all fake! This man is spreading lies!" I turned to her. "Lies?" The giant screen switched to an audio recording. "Why should a maid marry Harlan? I'm the reason she's been alive for 20 years. It's time she paid me back!"

Eleanora yelled. I yanked him off the floor with his ropes. In my peripheral vision, Nyxaria slapped Eleanora across the face again, shutting her up cold. “The best place to hide something is in plain sight,” I whispered, nodding for one of my men to iold him steady while I pulled my gun from its holster. Valen and Nikolai continued breaking the other men as I ejected the magazine and cleared the chamber, leaving a single live round inside. “We’re going to play Russian roulette,” I said, spinning the cylinder with a sharp click before aiming the barrel straight between his legs. “You can speak, Bruno, or you can say goodbye to your balls.”

Besides, those three guys that I bashed their heads with my gun are not the only Russians that we took out today. My boys shot quite a lot of them, and so did I also. I’m wondering what is so special about those three guys because I do t think he should be getting angry about it. It’s either me or them, it’s a game of life and death, the winner takes it all, and the loser goes six feet under. That is the game we are playing and he knows it. So he better suck it up and gets back to work because I’ve got more important things to do with my time.

I shielded myself with the car but even that wasn’t safe enough as the bullets were everywhere. A Russian lunged at me without a weapon, and I fired two bullets in his chest before he could finish screaming. Lorenzo was a few feet away, using the hood of our wrecked car as a cover. His left arm was basically useless, blood soaking his sleeve. He fired one-handed, every shot precise and hitting the target intended. Another Russian rounded the corner, much closer this time. He pointed his rifle at me. I raised my Glock, pulled the trigger, but nothing happened.

Ivan tsked as he squeezed his hand tighter around Reyna's neck. “Sorry, sweetheart. It could have been different if you had just listened. If you had just believed me. But now I can't trust you, and I can't have any loose ends. Daughter or not, your too much trouble to me alive.” A loud bang filled the room Adelyn's screams made my ears ring. Reyna’s body went limp and made a thud as it collided with the floor. Her hazel green eyes were lifeless, blood pouring from the gunshot wound at her temple.

“Your father called me here for two things. One of which you already know, the second one is to test you.” He picked the gun and popped open the cylinder, sliding one bullet inside. “I’m not into fancy tests, riddles or shit like that. Russian roulette. Simple rules. Simple game.” I rolled my eyes at him, already tired of our interaction. “I’m not here for games.” He spun the bullet chamber and snapped it shut. “Two pulls.” He tossed the gun my way and I caught it from the air. Of course he does something like this. His brain is too stupid to come up with something that doesn’t involve death.

“There’s no catch. You know I keep to my words. On the count of three, we both reach for the gun. One... “ I didn’t get to two before he was reaching for the gun and pointed it at my head. He pulled the trigger, but was surprised when no bullet came out. He tried four more times, and all he heard was a click. His eyes widened. “There’s no bullet in here.” “This was your chance to prove what type of father you are. I wasn’t expecting anything, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Guess what? You passed with flying colors.” He threw the revolver on the table. “This is bullshit.” I pulled the gun towards me, cocking the hammer before pulling the trigger. Fiore hissed in pain when the bullet

"Russian Roulette. The oldest rule of the Mafia." Vincent lit a cigar and looked down at him. "You want forgiveness? Prove your sincerity. Fire three shots at yourself. If you're lucky enough to survive, I'll let you get lost. If you die, you'll make good fertilizer for the rose field." Alexander looked at the gun on the ground without hesitation. As long as it could quell Ivy’s anger, he wouldn't hesitate even if it meant going to hell. He bent down, picked up the cold revolver, and pressed the muzzle directly against his left thigh.

Anger seething through me at the idea of just killing him with my bare hands than having to go through this Russia roulette bullshit. I can also see it in Enzo's demeanor as we all step into the living room. A round table with two chairs opposite each other and two revolvers already set in the center of the living room. Zayn sends out all his guards keeping only one by the door and giving us as much privacy as we need. "How is the maid by the way? I hope she didn't die," Zayn chuckles as he sits down on one of the chairs grabbing one of the revolvers on the table, I sit on the opposite chair not answering his questions while Enzo stands beside me.
