The pieces of glass sparkle everywhere, tiny shards flying in all directions. Jamil flinched. Jamil is one of his trusted friends with wealth, his trusted wolf His hand lifted halfway, like he was about to block something—even though nothing hit him. But he didn’t step back. He stood still, his face tense. His usual calm and sharp eyes were filled with a mix of fear and stubbornness.

Who does he think he is? “ Shut up. Shut the hell up. The last thing I would want is you showing up here, and you have messed up. I will make sure you pay even if it means going to the end of this world just to make it happen” He squirmed before running his hands on a portion of his arms. “ Ohhh, I am scared. The big bad wolf is coming to get me. Get away” he shoved me aside, arranging his now rumpled shirt with an annoying smirk on his face that I wished that I could wipe off.

The one with the scarred cheek shifted, his eyes narrowing slightly. “We’re not scared,” the scarred rogue grunted, his voice a low growl. “And we wouldn’t hesitate to kill the Alpha if we had to.” The words struck me like a physical blow. *Kill the Alpha.* My blood ran cold, fear warring with a surge of protective fury. I froze, every nerve ending screaming, every instinct urging me to reveal myself, to scream a warning. But I held back, my breath caught in my throat, praying they hadn’t heard the sudden hitch in my breathing.

“Then stop doing it.” “I can’t.” That answer sounded genuine. And somehow that bothered me more. I stared at my reflection again. The exhaustion remained. The confusion remained. But now there was something else too. Fear. Because Stormy sounded scared. Not for himself. For us. Which meant whatever he remembered was bad enough to terrify an ancient wolf. Fantastic. My life just kept getting better. A loud growl suddenly echoed through my stomach. The sound was so aggressive I actually looked down. Stormy immediately perked up.

I can't afford to be taken away again, not here and not now. "Oh human!" He says in his weird accent in a singsong voice, sounding really horrible just like the frightful energy he's giving off, "I can smell you close by already. Come out or no!" he says sharply, "Stay right where you are. I'm going to have so much fun removing your lad's guts and making you watch me while you listen to his screams and torment!"

But I knew he was dangerous, and I was so scared. Then, suddenly, a loud scream escaped my mouth as Ambrose hurriedly ran over to me, cuddling me tightly. "Hey, hey... you're safe now. Did you have another nightmare again?" he asked, his voice filled with concern, as I nodded my head continuously. I was so scared, my heart still racing from the nightmare.

"Mom, are you sure smearing chili powder helps? It's killing me! Help me! Ah!" Rufus cried. My goodness! To skimp on medical fees, Hilda resorted to some ridiculous home remedy that involved using chili powder. The screaming went on for about ten minutes before suddenly stopping. Then, there came Hilda's terrified shout. "Rufus? Rufus!" He must have fainted from the pain. I didn't intervene and let them handle it themselves.

Scarlet steps through the open window, gripping my hand tight. “I’m not really scared of heights,” she starts, holding onto the window frame. “But I’m afraid of falling from heights.” “I won’t let you fall.” She looks me right in the eye. “You sure about that?” “I’ll catch you.” Her lips curve into a smile. “You better.” “You can trust me.” “I know.”

“Hush, little one. There is no need to fear. You are safe, the gentle voice of the closest alpha assures, comforting my wolf, which responds with a soft whimper. As I lay down, a sense of fear and confusion washed over me as I observed the alpha, puzzled by his lack of aggression towards me. In that moment, I caught a faint whiff of his earthy forest scent, which triggered a deep and mournful howl to escape from within me.
