With heavy feet and breathing, I went back for my book. Due to fright, I imagined various scary scenes. I imagined myself being pulled inside the cabinet and brought to the underworld. I imagined being strangled by the lady in red’s hair. I imagined a flying knife aimed my left eye. I shook my head and picked the book in haste. I turned around and saw through the corners of my eyes two hand prints on the floor. My heart beat wildly again. A creaking sound sounded from behind me. It was like a bomb in my ears that made me dashed out of the room and straight ahead the elevator.

Standing up from the bed, I dragged my feet to the bookshelf and picked out a history book from there before going to sit on the bed. Opening the book, I almost screamed my lungs out at the image I was welcomed by. There were pictures of wild animals and some were humans with dangerous and scary faces, some had long teeth in their mouths, while some of them had some part of their eyes painted bloodred. I gulped down the lump in my throat, as I flipped the book page by page, checking out the images which getting scarier.

But when no one did, I continued.

I followed her. The saying don't judge a book by its cover turned out to be a big lie. This book had been judge exactly by its cover. The place was a lot worse that it's outside. It was too dark to even make up anything that was around me. And what was that nauseating smell? It smelled like dead and decayed animals. What if I had fell straight to a maniac butcher's dwelling. I picked at a golden slice of fish, savoring the rich, tangy taste before looking over at the book still sitting beside Kira’s seat. "What are you reading?" "Something on mystical creatures forged with witchcraft," she said between bites. "I’m hoping it might help us identify the giant serpent, but so far, there’s no mention of it." I chewed slowly, my gaze falling to the intricate cover of the book. "Nothing about a snake that kills everything in its path?" "Not yet. Just banshees, shadow beasts, some hybrid ghouls, and this weird chapter about moon-cursed wolves." I raised an eyebrow. "Sounds delightful."

She could destroy anything with a single scream of frustration. Walking along the shelves, my fingers run along the books when I see a book that seems to be calling to me. Moving towards it, I pick it up and turn the pages, just scanning the contents when the pages move on their own, stopping on a page. Reading the contents of the page, my beast snarls in my head. “Don’t you fucking dare do this Fen!” I shake my head with a sigh. Closing the book, it opens again to the page I was looking at.

It was like those horror movie scenes where the possessed person turns their head in an unnatural speed to a super creepy angle that causes their hair behind your neck to rise. I was surprised I didn't hear a loud crack from her. I raised my hands up in surrender as quickly as she had turned her head to stab me with her glare before she actually murders me. Anyone who knows Casey knows not to mess with her book collection, unless they want to end up dead in a ditch in the middle of nowhere. That girl does not joke about her books. When she finally secured her book and redirected her focus back to it instead of me, I knew I wouldn't have to worry about questions being rained down on me.

The howling wind outside seemed to be growing louder, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. As I made my way back to bed, I noticed something strange. The pages of the book I was reading were scrolling themselves, the words blurring together in a maddening rhythm. I froze, my heart racing with fear. "Ahhhh!" I screamed, as I frantically ran towards the door. I had almost reached the entrance when the door slammed shut violently, the sound echoing through the room like a gunshot. I spun around, my eyes scanning the room in desperation. "No, no, no. What the heck is going on? Brock!!!" I screamed on top of my lungs, but there was no response.
