It was neither the waves of the enormous ocean that would seem to swallow them whole if they ever tried to leave. No. It was far worse than those combined. Deep within the trees lies something dark, cursed, and wicked. Fyn always remembers the tales that seemed to run around the town whenever nightfall reached them. Tales about why the forests always sounded like a woman had been screaming inside there all night long. There were also cautionary tales about what might happen if an individual who had no business walking there would stumble upon the entrance of Gashea's forest.

I asked frowning, I have never heard about this. Ray laughed, “ It was in the bedtime stories, my mother and granny used to recite them to us to make us scared of going out in the middle of the night. you know how pups are! As soon as they start shifting that’s what they all want to do for a long time. The male pups even go out at night to run through the woods. So to keep me and my brothers safe, my mother and granny told us this myth. How at night a creature who is not man nor beast roams the landing of woods and if pups go there, he will eat them.”

Any act of kindness out here was worth acknowledging. Soon enough, they started to talk. Stories, some funny, others dark. One spoke of a creature that prowled these woods, an ancient spirit that hunted lonely travellers and fed on their voices. Another swore that he once saw a woman in white walking just beyond the trees, her eyes hollow, her fingers covered in blood. The rider shivered and moved closer to me. But I didn’t move. I only listened, watched, and tried to determine whether these stories were meant to entertain us or warn us.

“A store where they sell traps for wild animals and if possible, folktales creatures too. I am not leaving anything out, whatever this thing is. We will catch it and torture the hell out of it for fun.” “Bloodthirsty.” Sorens chuckled.

I pulled it from the shelf and sat down at the table, flipping it open. The first few pages were filled with the usual stuff—founding dates, town milestones, and the kind of folklore that every small town seemed to have. But as I read further, the stories grew darker. Mentions of strange disappearances, shadowy figures in the woods, and whispers of creatures that hunted under the full moon. Wolves. My breath caught in my throat as I skimmed over the passages. It wasn’t just talk of wild animals. There were stories—centuries old—of people who could shift into wolves. People who lived among the townsfolk by day but became something else under the cover of darkness.

These are the common details of the books I’ve read throughout the entire week. There are tons of literary pieces inspired by these myths. I can’t say that I haven’t heard about witches, werewolves, and vampires before. Every culture has its own version of these folklores, and the Čuvari Tribe is no different. But none of these books speaks of the ritual that Paul was speaking of.

Some even call it the “Bermuda Triangle of Romania.” According to local legends, ghosts and spirits lurk among the crooked trees. One tale tells of a young girl who disappeared into the forest, only to reappear five years later unable to remember where she had been. Another legend speaks of a shepherd who, along with his sheep, vanished within the woods. And, with most places associated with the supernatural, there are also rumors of alien encounters.

You can imagine all sorts of creepy things, That makes you shudder with fright, But please don’t yell mommy when you see them,
