“Story!” I couldn’t help but smile. “You want a story?” I asked, stifling a laugh. The children nodded excitedly. “The wolf story!” one of them exclaimed. “We want to hear the wolf story again!” How could I refuse? The ‘wolf story’ in question was one that I had made up yesterday on the spot, a story about a rogue wolf chasing a little girl. "Hey, folks! Great, we made it all the way from the other side of town! Just wanted to give you all a heads up!” The cafe fell silent as all eyes turned to the newcomers. "What's going on?" someone asked. "It’s bad news," the other man replied grimly. "There were reports of lycans roaming through the city. It's not safe to be out alone after dark." Scarlett's heart sank at the man's words. It seemed like there was no escape from the danger that followed her everywhere. She gripped her hood tighter, hoping that the men wouldn't notice her distress.

Scarlett couldn't sleep. All through the night, she tossed and turned restlessly, plagued with images of Tabitha's dead body. One time when she managed to doze off, a bad dream terrified her.
