I was trapped within my mind, walled behind bars that I did not know how to break down. There was a time whenever something would have flashed-an image, a word, a sound-and it would trigger something in my brain. But it would be gone in an instant, like smoke through the fingers of my hand. I'd try and hold onto it, trace the thread back to who I had been, but it would disappear before I made any sense of it. The more this happened, the deeper a sense of loss was etched into my being-like chasing something I would never find.

I’m drowning in it, suffocating under the weight of it. And then, the image of my father with Bahar, together in a bed, tangled in sheets. I try to deny it. I try to push it away, but it’s no use. It’s burned into my mind, over and over again, like a twisted, broken record. I can’t unsee it. I can’t escape it. I close my eyes, but the image is still there, vivid and clear. I can’t stop it from playing in my mind, from repeating itself like a song that never ends.

Every single thing he felt resonating on my skin, imprinting on my mind. I would never forget this. I knew it. I just wouldn't.

My chest tightened with unease. The haunting image of his lifeless eyes and the charred remains of his body plagued my every waking moment. It was as if my mind had carved a permanent, vivid portrait of that catastrophic incident. The memory, like a relentless echo, followed me wherever I went. It makes me cringe visibly and have the urge to bleach my brain. Scanning through so many pretty gross scenes that involve not just Eve in a flicker of a second, but seeing and knowing what each visual replay is, because that’s part of my gift. It's like I absorb them, even in a fleeting moment, to know exactly what they are. Images so fast they seem almost like a blur, but once they have flown past my sight, I know what they contain and what happened. I can recall them in full. I’ve heard that imprinting on a mate has the same effect, and you receive a lifetime of their memories in a fleeting second.

Pain flared at the back of my skull, but before I could even process it, something else hit me—something far worse. A memory. Clear. Vivid. Unshakable. My breath caught in my throat, my body frozen as the scene unfolded in my mind. This… this can’t be real.

I convey before sinking my elongated teeth into her soft skin, I curse myself for bringing her pain again. Soon after I got a taste of her blood, something in my head felt like a bomb ready to explode, I surrendered to the sensation, I didn’t even have a choice.
