"The sound of a car engine some miles away". "Good. It's good to know we also have super hearing abilities. Camp must be that way, since the engine sound came from there", Lucas said, as he headed in the direction of the sound back to camp.

It repeated over and over again. At first, it was like the drip of water, then the sound of someone being slapped, followed by something breaking, and then something hard falling. The mixed noises I was hearing were making me deaf.

There, he heard a weird sound, like a faint whispering in his ear. He tried to locate its origin but failed to find anything, his eyes scanning the surrounding area with a mix of confusion and fear. Soon, his instincts kicked in, and he realized that it might be some kind of trap. He didn't move ahead, his senses on high alert, and instead came back, his mind racing with possibilities.

The roaring sound of the motor started fading. That was where I recognized that I started losing the ability of hearing. Aside from the ambiguous words, he said through the phone, I no longer heard. One thing remained. I was still able to smell. The aroma of his luxurious fragrance abated for a few seconds.

That’s when I heard it. The faintest sound, almost imperceptible—like soft footsteps against the marble floor, moving just outside the window. My heart jolted, and I held my breath, straining to listen. The sound came again, but this time from the trees, a quiet rustle, like someone hiding between the leaves.
