“Enough!” Seraphina interrupted sharply. She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a small metallic object. Glancing at it, it was a USB drive. Without hesitation, she tossed the USB drive at Sid. “Take your stuff back. I know exactly what kind of person the young master is, better than anyone else. I only trust my own heart.” As for what was on the USB drive, she didn’t want to know and didn’t care. With that, she turned and walked away.

This wasn’t anything close to Alpha behavior. This wasn’t who I was. “Maybe I should show you what it means to actually put the things that are most important before yourself,” Seraphina said, her voice dropping degrees to something colder, more dangerous. She reached to her side and pulled out a whip—long and wickedly barbed with spikes, gleaming in the dimming light. She wore minimal armor, just a pleated skirt and bandages wrapped tightly around her chest. I didn’t need my wolf instincts to tell that she was oozing with unbelievable confidence.

The girl was a first-year, human by scent, small and trembling with the particular fragility of someone who had seen something that rewrote their understanding of safety.
