The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.

Ken's eyes met hers, a flicker of concern dancing in their depths. "Selena, can you keep this up?" Ken shouted, his voice barely audible over the din of gunfire. Selena's gaze locked on his, her eyes burning with determination. "I've got this!" With renewed ferocity, Selena unleashed her Shadow energy, clearing a path through the enemies. Ken followed close behind, Eclipse clutched tightly in his hand. They burst through the rooftop door, the cool night air a welcome respite from the chaos below. Selena's Shadow energy dissipated, leaving her gasping for breath.

It was quiet for a few minutes and he finally said, “Tilly and I have absolutely no secrets. People like you and me … we can’t be with just anyone. It’s either one night stands, fake short term relationships or nothing. You don’t just find a Tilly on every corner. A woman that will accept you, that if you are totally honest with her … won’t be afraid of you. I never had someone to … to help me. To direct me, and it damn near killed me. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I call it my dark shadow … it’s a part of me, but it’s a part of me I can mostly keep hidden, that I can control.

I grabbed the keys and released the clasps, but the moment they fell away, Narvia collapsed — trembling, gasping for air. “What the hell was that?” I demanded. She looked up, eyes wild and bright with pain. “You don’t get it. She knows. She always knows.” “Who?” Her voice cracked. “The shadow behind the throne.” Then her head dropped forward, consciousness slipping away. Eliana knelt beside her, checking her pulse. “She’s alive,” she said softly. “But barely.” I stood there for a long moment, staring at the smoke curling from the cuffs. Whatever had just happened wasn’t normal. That wasn’t poison or magic we could name. It was something older.

The Final Trade "You are leaving!" the Glass-Ghost roared, its form expanding until it filled the void. It lunged for Alexander, its jagged glass fingers aiming for his heart. "The debt must be paid!" Elena stepped between them. She didn't use a pulse. She used her Identity. "I am Elena Everett-Northwood!" she declared, her voice echoing through the obsidian depths. "I am the Shadow Empress! I am the Mother of the Genesis! And I do not pay debts to ghosts!"

One slip, and would plummet hundreds of feet directly into the pool of necrotic sludge, or be instantly decapitated by the Shadow Wraiths below. I looked down at my trembling, frostbitten hands. "I am Elara Vane," I whispered to the dark. "I am the Luna of the Northern Shadows. And I am going to bring the roof down on this entire kingdom." I didn't hesitate. If I stopped to calculate the odds, the sheer terror would paralyze me. I slipped off the heavy dire-wolf mantle, leaving it in the shadows of the corridor. The fur was too bulky; it would throw off my balance on the narrow ledges. I was left in only the shredded, freezing silk.

A blood-curdling scream tore through the air as I plummeted from the skyscraper, blacking out before I hit the ground. "Lily." The camera lingered mercilessly on my mangled form. The voice was unhinged with madness. "You're finally going to die. Don't blame me. Blame yourself for being so vile. "You knew damn well I loved Shane, and you still went ahead and married him! "In this world, only I am meant to love him! Everyone who'd try to take him from me should die!" The screen quaked, the view flipped, and there was Joanna's twisted face, filling the big screen. The footage cut off abruptly.

divestment reports, declining metrics, investor withdrawals. “You fools”, she snarled into her phone. “Do you think Elena can protect you when they come for her?” The Shadow Syndicate’s contact on the other end merely laughed. “They already have.” Sierra’s eyes flicked toward her security feed…..only to find it had gone black. “What—” The elevator chimed. She turned…..and there, stepping out of the shadows, was a woman clad in silver-gray silk, her face partially obscured by a sheer veil.
