He could see that clearly, in the way her eyes moved over him looking for the signs of a hunted man, the gauntness of someone running on adrenaline and diminishing time, the specific damage that three days of rogue existence on one's own territory should theoretically produce. He was steady. He was present. He was whole. The slight tightening around her eyes before she controlled it said: that is not the variable I planned for. Good. Grayson was slower to turn, which Magnus had anticipated the heavenly-born wolves' dominance confidence made them slower to register territorial challenges because their baseline assumption was that challenges would be announced rather than simply arrived. I went back to my room after storming off. Clayton was standing there waiting for me by the desk. “ I could sense your distress through the link. I hope you don’t mind but I let myself in. Wanna talk?,” he gently inquired. “ I’m sorry I know I’m acting like an idiot. I hoped that my mate would be a rogue to join our pack or at least a non-ranked member if they had a pack. But just my luck my mate isn’t only an Alpha but he’s the Alpha of the Black-hide pack! The goddess obviously likes fucking with my life! Even if I can look past his pack I’ll need to leave Ash Wood. There was Magnus too, the madman who had killed thousands and had been banished to Blackreach. With rumors spreading about his escape from Blackreach and his power to absorb the souls of fallen alphas, Damon couldn't help but feel uneasy. At first, he'd been confident he could take Magnus down. After all, he wasn't like other wolves, his bloodline had long been known to carry the power of the ancients wolves, granting him the ability to shift into a true lycan. But if Drake was right, there was no telling how far Magnus had grown, or what he could do.

My agony only made his pack more excited, like they were watching a funny sitcom. Magnus crouched down to his warriors, pouring my blood on their wounds, and instantly they healed up. The pack gasped in shock, while Magnus turned to look at me, almost amazed. If my blood still had its healing powers, why wasn't I healing? Why was I still stuck with these wounds? My thoughts were cut short because Magnus stabbed me again and fetched more of my blood. He poured it on his own wounds, and just like his warriors, he healed instantly. A sinister smile spread across his face.

He had come in to wake her an hour earlier to prepare for their march into war, only to find the bed empty and no one seemed to know where she'd gone, it didn't take a genius to work out that she would head back here to him. No one could stop him as he made his way through the masses, and Magnus felt sure that he was invincible, 'this is my time' he crowed gleefully as the coppery taste of victory made him stronger. He was almost at her when a weak female wolf bravely blocked his path, growling pathetically as the weak Omega tried to stop him. Shaking his he

If a guard so much as stepped toward her, the shadows would rise up and swallow them whole, leaving nothing behind but a discarded helmet. Magnus and Kaelen were the final hammer. The old wolf and the restored Shield moved with a grim, familial efficiency. Kaelen was silent, his movements still possessing a touch of that mechanical precision he had acquired in the Falls, but now it was directed by a soul. He moved like a shield of violet glass, reflecting every attack and creating openings for Magnus to deliver the killing blow. Magnus was a force of nature, his broken axe replaced by a heavy iron club he had looted from a gatehouse. He wasn't fighting for a throne or a law; he was fighting

"He’s Magnus. My uncle. The same one Soren warned us about." The one who Soren ended his life and should have been dead. But here he was, as real and solid as any nightmare. Too many wolves wanted her dead, their greed for her territory outweighing their loyalty. Alpha Magnus, the fearsome Lord of the North, had scoured the lands to find four elite warriors to serve as her personal guard. These weren’t just maids; they were lethal weapons. Shadow was one of them. In the blink of an eye, a blur of white motion materialized in front of Prince Xiao Chuan.
