EMILY I turned my attention to the glass door that led directly out onto the terrace of the house. I quickly grabbed something on and ran to inspect the outside of the house as well. A minute of waiting passes before Lucas continues. Emily's breaths caught in her throat as she look up. The shadow is right by her side but it didn't harm her. It is as if it is following them, leading them out of the house. The shadow is trying to tell her something or show her somewhere. " Lucas, follow the shadow", Emily utters. Lucas did not even doubt her , he cautiously follows the shadow as it leads them through the haunted house. When they reach a black door, the shadow stops. The shadow shifts as it takes the form of a human.

If I did, I would lose Lucas forever. It was late. The house was quiet, save for the soft rustling of the wind outside. I moved through the dark corridors, my steps silent on the cold stone floor. I knew where Emilio would be. He was always in the garden at this time, alone, staring at the stars, pretending he didn’t know the danger lurking around him. I stepped outside and saw him standing there, his back to me, his face lifted to the sky. He looked peaceful, so innocent. Too innocent. But that innocence wasn’t enough. It couldn’t protect him from what was coming.

Pulled back like it had been burned. Emily stepped forward this time. Not back. Her breathing steadied. Her eyes focused. “You don’t get to take from me,” she said. The words were simple. But strong. The shadow hesitated. Then it moved again. Faster. Angrier. It lunged toward her.

The word traitor hissed in the air like a snake. Emilia’s nails dug into the cloak. She should speak. She should tell him about the shadow she saw slipping away while the fire spread. The profile she recognized. But the memory of Luca’s calm eyes held her tongue. If she accused him and was wrong, she’d doom herself. If she was right… she might still be doomed. The ruined wing groaned as another charred beam collapsed inward. Sparks leapt into the sky before dying against the cold. The sound jolted Emilia, making her heart stutter.

I stepped through the foyer, still thinking about him. Tell me to rescue you…and I will. God. What had I gotten myself into? I started toward the staircase. “Where the fuck have you been?” I froze. Slowly, I turned. Emilio sat in the shadows of the grand room...waiting. My face paled. “Emilio? What are you—” He stood...slowly. His expression wasn't irritated. It wasn't annoyed. Instead...it was something darker. He walked toward me. “I said…”
