Orange cats are always fierce.” She squatted and beckoned the orange cat over. “Come here, sweetie,” she said in the softest voice.

The broad smile forming on her lips makes me feel light-headed. “I’ll cut some more for you.” As she sits down on the ground, she looks up at me. “You’re not mad at us anymore, are you?” Us. Hugging her cat as if she was afraid to be separated from it. Her only friend. Her only companion in this miserable life. A black cat that was believed to be a black omen just like her. In this life no one loves her. She was treated like a jinx. A plague that needs to be avoided at any cost.

She hadn't made plans on exactly how long she was going to stay, but when she packed she just didn't stop until she had two suitcases and a tote filled with her personal care products. "Hello?"
