It was a haven for diligent students, their heads buried in textbooks as they chased after knowledge and good grades among the comforting stacks of dusty tomes. However, Katherine didn’t quite fit the mold. Numbers and historical facts weren’t what excited her; her heart craved the enchanting worlds of romance and adventure found within novels. Every free moment, when she wasn’t wallowing in dismay over her less-than-stellar academic performance, was spent here, browsing the shelves for a story that would whisk her away completely.

She picked it up and carried it with her as she left her room. She occupied herself with the book she was holding as she waited on the long couch for her food to arrive. The book Jessie was reading was a romance novel, and she loved everything romantic. Just how she prefers it. She smiled as she flipped open the book and began reading the first page. "Nice. Nice beginning." She kept reading, and with each second and minute that passed, she was either crying, laughing, or throwing a fit about how insane the main characters are. Everyone who was close to Jessie could not help but notice how dramatic she was. Being close to Jessie means knowing her dramatic side.

Scowling, she realized she’d re-read the same six sentences of her book for the last hour or so. With a sigh, she closed it and stood. It was a new one by her favorite author, one she hadn’t gotten around to reading yet, so to find it on the shelves of Xavier’s library had been a surprise. In fact, there was a whole shelf dedicated to romance, so someone in the house must be a fan.

When she had the chance, she would sneak off to the library that was on the next street, and get some books, giving them under the basket of groceries and behind closed doors, she would read and read, until it was time to make lunch or dinner. She enjoyed reading, especially the ones with romance in them. She would even dream of the events in the book, replacing the main female character with herself, just to smile and live in that moment. “I read the ones filled with so much love and not bad stuff.’ She doesn’t have to know what I read. It would be embarrassing explaining it to her. “And I don’t care if romance is your preference or whatever you choose to read. This is mine and it’s not like you love to read, anyway.” I pointed it out. “Yeah, reading makes me dizzy.” She rolled her eyes in a circle, laughing. “I thought as much, so leave me be,” I mumbled.

She laughed and gave me a soft punch on the arm. "We'll see about that," she replied. She held up her book and opened it so I could read the cover. It was a romance novel by a British author named Anne Bradstreet. "Anne Bradstreet?" I asked in surprise. I'd never actually seen the book but I remember Emily mentioning it one day when I was asking her why she loved books so much. "Yep," she confirmed with a grin. "Do you like it?" I shrugged and turned away. "It looks interesting," I admitted, "but I don' know if I would read it myself."
