“You mean the Shepherd.” Every breath caught in my throat. I knew that name before he said it. I felt it. The Shepherd—the ancient force that had guided the trials, that had pushed me to my limits, that had whispered truths and secrets long hidden. There were unfamiliar characters carved at the bottom. I touched it with my fingertips and I felt a sudden jolt. I was stunned when the characters suddenly became readable. I swear I haven’t learned any other language yet and I can only read alphabets. The characters were unfamiliar yet I’m reading it and it was my name on the cover! Was this the real Nemiah’s diary? I suggested, showing her the page. “No!” she shouted. I sighed. That was one of my favorites, because it told of the first beta, and I always thought of mine and Reid’s friendship. I flipped through the book some more until I ended up back at the very beginning. The first story, the story of our origins. “‘The First of the Wolves’?” I asked, peeking at her from the corner of my eye. Her eyes lit up, but then she forced a frown. However, it was too late. I had already seen her excitement.

I was searching the grounds, knowing she couldn't have gone very far, I only saw her in a blur in my haste and when I slowed down I met her curious gaze for the first time since she lived with us. In the midst of the garden, she sat in the grass with a book, a story book about a little girl and a wolf. She called me by her side, telling me, explaining how a wolf ate, the girl's grandmother and only attempted to eat her as well before the butcher saved the day. It was her favourite book she said. I was the wolf, I ate her entire world in one gulp. Only this time, there wasn't a butcher to save her.

At first he didn't believe me but in the second part of the story he then believes on me. I sigh in relief when he talks again like he used to do.
