Shirley's Dilemma
“Kelly, I need you to hear me clearly. I do not love you. I will never choose you. Stop writing me letters. Stop spreading lies about Shirley. Stop trying to tear her down, because it won’t change the truth.”
Kelly’s lips tremble, her fists clenching at her sides. For once, she has no words. The silence in the room is deafening.
I turn back to Shirley, my voice softening. “From now on, no one gets to make you feel less than you are. Not here. Not anywhere. You are mine, and I will make sure everyone knows it.”
Her eyes shimmer with tears, but this time they are not from pain, they are from relief. From finally being defended. She nods, her lips curving into the smallest, most beautiful smile
