That wasn’t what we were told in school. My voice started to come out shaky as thoughts began racing through my mind. “What are you talking about? That’s basic shifting. We learn that as children when we start school. If a Shifter has not transformed by their sixteenth birthday, then it means the shifting gene is absent, and they were cursed to live as humans.

Larissa leaned forward, her fingers shifting into claws. “Now that I’ve got two beauties working behind the bar, I’m sure the customers will follow,” he said, sounding satisfied. I groaned and leaned back in the seat. Beki nuzzled against our bond, trying to offer encouragement. The streets to our left and right were empty. After a while, it actually feels so good to shift that you begin to crave it.”
