I close my eyes, focusing on her fingers soothingly stroking my hair and the comforting rhythm of her heartbeat. Raven Anita had fallen asleep on my chest as light rain pitter pattered against the windows. The trauma of that night still haunts her. Storms, like the one that just passed triggers PTSD attacks. I’m the only one who can calm her down. She’s been to an odd number of therapists but none of which can help her.

I smiled, heat rising to my cheeks as I felt every pair of eyes on me. “Thank you,” I said, my voice trembling slightly as I stepped forward. “Thank you for being here tonight. For believing in me, even when I didn’t always believe in myself.” I paused, searching for the right words as I wanted to give a quick speech. “This new boutique is more than just fashion or design. It is about honoring my parents’ legacy and I could not have done it without each of you.”

“The truth you deny.” Her mother’s words echoed in her mind: *“Remember who you are.”* Jessica focused, not on destroying the shadow but on understanding it. She let her spark flow, not as a weapon but as a bridge, reaching for the pain within the shadow. It faltered, its form flickering, and she saw it—a fragment of her grief, her anger, her fear of failure. “I see you,” she whispered, and the shadow screamed, dissolving into light. Around her, her companions overcame their own echoes, their resolve bolstered by her victory.

Everyone sees who I appear to be, but only a few know the real me, you only see what I choose to show, there is so much behind my smile, you just do not know. Author's P. O. V.
