Inanimate objects weren’t known to have any pressure points, and yet it was also true that most materials had a certain degree of elasticity in them, no matter how small. For instance, a balloon, a shamisen string, a tree trunk, even a concrete slab. They all followed natural philosopher Master Hook’s Law: {ut tensio, sic vis}, which translated to “the extension is proportional to the force.” In principle, if a material was struck in the right spot, it would start to oscillate and its structural integrity would be compromised.
