He growled at her and she returned it with a sneer. He began to throb his paws towards her while she growled, not ready to accept defeat. "I'm Sage, nice to meet you." He greeted through the mind-linking.

My name is Emma and I'm what they call a nerd. Not only that I have multiple nicknames like fathead, uglyface, the list is endless. Summer is finally over meaning it's back to school well for me more like I'm going to hell, you see I've always been bullied. It started of being an emotional thing but then they started bullying me physically, shoved me against the lockers, some girls actually slap me but I don't do anything I just walk away.

That, the shyness and the fact that I was pretty much considered a nerd, plus my being new in school and that all added up to no new friends. As nerds go I wasn't the kind that you imagine when you hear the term. I didn't have Coke bottle glasses and pocket protectors full of pencils and pens. What made me a nerd to my classmates was that I always had my head stuck in a book and in class whenever a question was asked my hand was always the first one raised. It didn't help any that my answers were always right.

Courtney whispered, unsure of herself. “What do you mean? Nervous about what is happening? Don’t be, no one will hurt you. I promise.” A surge of protectiveness pulsed between them. Courtney smiled shyly. “No, I mean. You look like a jock, and you are probably popular with the ladies. I, however, am a huge nerd. I love books, chasing monsters, and wild theories. I love a good mystery. I’ve never been the overly girly type. I’m just—”

The next few days went as flat as a pancake. Everything felt quiet, almost dull. Some students still teased and laughed at me for always being alone. The truth? I don’t have any friends here. I’ve tried, but it’s hard for me to socialize. My interests are just... different. Most people here like hanging out, partying, or going out after class, while I prefer staying home, reading books, or watching shows. I was once called a nerd because of that. Someone even said, “Who even reads books these days?”

His thin body made him look like he was carrying a baseball bat. As if he doesn’t know they’re letting the nerd’s play just to make fun of them. Because if he plays, the piñata will be broken in less than ten seconds. He hissed. The nerd hit his knee instead of the piñata above him. “Gosh, it seems like you didn’t want to hit the piñata when we were kids. You’re still very good at hitting. Oh right your pounding something else now.” He glared at him.

“You’re so extra, I swear.” “Extra is my brand, baby.” He scooted over so I could slide in beside him. Across from us, Riley was already demolishing her salad like it personally offended her. She’s my other best friend. A total nerd like me but a complete vegetarian freak. I could never be a vegetarian but I'm sure you already know that. Riley looked up mid-bite. “Hey, Mia. I heard someone say that Kathleen went crazy on you by the lockers earlier. What the hell did she do?”

"Why should I help you? What’s in it for me?" "Aside from the fact that it'll be the best sixty seconds of your pathetic life? Nothing." I reached out, my fingers trembling as I grabbed the rough fabric of his hoodie. "Just shut up and let me get this over with." "You look like you're about to vomit," he whispered, his voice dropping to a dangerous vibration. "Is the Ice Queen actually scared of a nerd?" "I’m disgusted, Elias. There’s a difference." "Then show me," he challenged. "Show me how much you hate it."
