A vampire with red eyes and claws extended. I raised my arm to block, but I knew it wouldn't be enough. The vampire never reached me. A blade took it in the chest from behind. Not mine. Someone else's. The vampire staggered, snarled, tried to turn. The blade twisted. A second later, the vampire exploded into ash. Someone stepped out of the shadows. She was taller than me. Thinner. Her braids were messy, and a long white scar cut across her throat. Her eyes were lighter brown than mine — colder and more hunted.

I watched as a light frown grew on her face while she looked back and forth in her bedroom making me smile lightly in amusement. Amaya: How can you see me? Is it a special power for vampires?
