At least one good thing had come from this nightmare. A sharp knock interrupted my thoughts. Mira swept in without waiting, beautiful and furious in crimson silk. Her golden hair cascaded perfectly; her curves were the kind men fought wars over. “So,” she said, voice dripping venom. “The little human pet has the alpha’s bed and the priestess’s attention. How quaint.” I straightened, refusing to cower. “I didn’t ask for any of it.”

I had no clue. “One thousand gold pieces.” I said hoping that was going to be enough money. Cadogen let out a whistle. “You’re steep. Have you really never been touched?” his eyebrow arched quizzically. “I’m not a prude if that is what you are asking but I have never been intimate that way with a man.” I sat back wishing I would have said a different price. Maybe that was too high. He sat a moment longer, rapping his fingers on the table.

He turned around and extended his right hand with perfect gentlemanly grace. A hand clad in a pure white silk glove reached out and rested on his palm. While dressed in a dazzling all-white, diamond-studded gown hand-sewn over the course of three years by Fairen's finest artisans, I slowly stepped from the shadows into the spotlight. A crown set with red rubies rested atop my head, and an emerald necklace worth 200 million dollars adorned my neck. I had a radiant and rosy complexion. My eyes were confident and proud. There was no trace left of the cautious, self-effacing woman who had spent the last seven years in Seyfried Manor.
