“I know. Your soul is bound to a divine being.” My breath caught. “That’s right,” I said, exchanging a glance with Zevarion. “I cannot remove the wolf within you,” she continued, her voice a gentle breeze, “but I can perform a ritual that will still its fury, halt its shifting, so it can no longer hurt others.” I looked to Zevarion. He gave a slow, approving nod. “Please... I’d like that,” I said. “Good,” she replied, rising to her feet. She crossed to her shelf, an elegant rainbow of tiny potion bottles, feathers, glowing crystals, and flower-pressed scrolls, and selected a small vial. It was filled with sparkling pink dust that shimmered like powdered stars.

It snapped at her face, its breath smelling of copper and chemical preservatives. She spun to the left, her silver movements fluid and weightless. She allowed the wolf’s momentum to carry it past her, but as it did, she drove her silver blade upward, targeting the unarmored gap beneath its foreleg. The silver energy coating the blade sliced through the tough hide effortlessly. The moment the silver entered the creature’s bloodstream, the violet light in its eyes vanished, replaced by a flash of blinding white light as the internal cybernetics short-circuited. The wolf crashed into the central console, sparking violently before collapsing.

Daire’s voice came out like ice. “I’ve done some research on the subject. I am older than both of you combined.” Cadogen dusted his shoulder. All three of us walked back to the table Cedar was at. He looked at Cadogen with suspicion. I sat beside him but he wasn’t happy with me either. He clutched the wyvern stuffy to himself. “Soul-Tie’s are bonds between two people and they have to be sealed. Damien rolled down his window at that threat. “Hello, friend,” he said smoothly, “That won’t be necessary today. It would sting and make us angry…” he trailed off.

Did you rescue Cerelia? Zephyrus told me all about her. She’s a spy, right?” My body reacted the moment the words left his lips. I sprang to my feet in a fit of rage. “No, she isn’t a spy. She’s a Silver wolf from the Silver Trails Pack, Yukon. Originally, her father belonged to the Silvermane Warriors of Pieria, Greece. They’re way above our league, Leandros. I can’t understand why Zeph doesn’t believe in me.”

The type of wolf spirit they possess determine their rank, it actually determines way more than that, it determines their whole lives. It isn’t going to hurt her.” I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, the same way silver didn’t hurt her before. You’ve seen all her scars!”
