She located the first aid kit, and ensured that there was alcohol, antiseptic, and Band-Aids, then she returned to the bedroom, just as Asher made his way inside. Anise disappeared from sight after sending Miranda a final reassuring nod. Asher looked over at Miranda. He tried to glare her way as he sized her suspiciously, before he headed to the bathroom without a word. He closed the door behind him and turned on the faucet. Asher washed his hands, and the water burned his cuts. He gathered water in his palms and splashed them on his face, then over his head and down his naked neck. Asher removed his shirt and washed cool water over his skin again.

Ash leans in, “Are you ready for this?”

And we both have other people to love. “Slate sweetie, we need to go!” Ash calls from the van. The way she is saying his name makes me want to cringe, it's so syrupy and sweet. I know it is a show, to remind me of who he belongs to. I don’t need the reminder, I am quite aware that he is off limits.

Ash was standing on the bed in his dinosaur pajamas, brown hair a full-blown battlefield like he’d just returned from war. “Tax robots, huh?” I groaned, shutting my eye again. “You must be a descendant of the IRS.” He laughed, jumped again, and I silently begged the universe not to let my bed collapse. “Mami, wake up. I’m hungry. Should we make pancakes or do a chemistry experiment?” “Can I choose a coma?” Ash leaned down, face just inches from mine. His blue eyes, those damn blue eyes, sparkled with equal parts hope and destruction. “But I already mixed baking soda and mustard. It kind of exploded. Just a little. In the kitchen. Only half the wall, Mami.”

I was about to walk out of the room when Aslan called my name. “ Sit down.” He says.“ Let's have a chat.” I remained rooted to the floor but after a minute, I did as he said. I sat down

The fear and grief I had been holding in broke loose the moment I saw her. "Cassia!" My voice came out hoarse as I shouted with everything I had: "Save my father! Hurry, save my father!"

The water sparkled under the light, casting a calming glow over the task at hand. Whizz joined in, his hands deftly rinsing the plates and passing them to Jeff for washing. Their movements were coordinated, almost like a dance, as they navigated the task with ease. The sound of running water and the clinking of dishes created a soothing rhythm, a background melody to their conversation. "You know, it's funny," Jeff mused, his voice thoughtful. "We've been through so much together, and here we are, doing something as mundane as washing dishes."

ARTEMISIA “You need to obey me for once and stay out of trouble.” Sin rasped. “But I did nothing wrong,” I mumbled, eyeing him. I bit my lower lip to stop myself from laughing as he glared at me. He didn't look angry to me, rather he was cute. His lashes were ridiculously long for a man. Most women I knew had falsies on, whereas Sin had them in abundance. I was among the women that had scanty lashes, but I don't like using artificial ones. I'd rather use mascara than burden myself with it.

A waitress came by shortly after, and Susan ordered drinks like she had been preparing for this moment her entire life. “I’ll have something sweet,” she said confidently, grinning at the lady. The waitress nodded and turned to me. “And you?” “Water.” I said immediately. If I let Susan, she would've ordered something strong for me just to get me loosen up a bit. Susan’s head snapped toward me. “Excuse me?” “I said water.” I repeated. “You are not drinking water at a karaoke bar.” “I absolutely am.” The waitress looked between us, clearly entertained.
