“You’re not sleeping again.” Irene stopped just inside the library. Ares was exactly where she had expected him to be, which was becoming annoying. He sat near the window with a book open across one knee and a glass of red on the table beside him. At least Irene no longer wasted time wondering whether it was wine. “Good evening to you too.” “It is nearly two in the morning.” “Then good morning.” She had spent the last forty minutes in bed trying to sleep. She had turned onto one side, then the other, kicked the blanket off, pulled it back on, checked the time twice, and finally given up.

“Where do you want to sleep tonight?” Belladonna opened her mouth to say something, but Ares was barely looking at her. I gave her a triumphant look. I couldn't help but lean into Ares. “I want to stay in our room tonight… with you in it.” I didn't know why I wanted him there. The last time I remembered, I only wanted to sleep in a huge bed. Why the hell did I suddenly want him there? “Ares, we have some work to do,” Belladonna started. I looked up at Ares, waiting for him to say something. His answer was the most important.

Chapter Ten I lift my glass up and move it half an inch, pressing it down on the table so it leaves a water ring on the surface. I repeat the process, making a pattern with the condensation. “I never knew a glass of water could be so entertaining.” Eliza slides a cocktail in front of me and leans back, crossing her arms. Lucas is in the office at the bar tonight, and I’ve been sitting at a table in the back for the last half-hour reading. I just finished my book and am still reeling from the cliffhanger ending. The next book doesn’t come out for three months, dammit.

Lyra did not wake screaming. That was what frightened Ares the most. She woke in silence… eyes wide, breath steady, body too still for someone who had nearly shattered under divine pressure hours earlier. The room was dim, lit only by low-burning lamps and the faint glow of moonlight filtering through heavy curtains. The air smelled of herbs, stone, and something warmer beneath it all… him. Ares sat at the edge of the bed, his back straight, shoulders tense, hands clasped together as if holding himself in place by force alone.

Ares came from the other side, his words spoken seductively, soft, like an angel, his tongue licking my throat, “Don’t worry, there’s nothing to be afraid of.” Marcus repeatedly kissed me tenderly, as if to please me. I couldn’t even fathom what was happening. My mind was filled with confusion and haze. “You’ll be safe, I’ll be gentle with you. Do you want me already?” Ares whispered, his breaths falling in the middle of my thighs, on my forbidden parts. “N-no…” “Is that so?” He traced his fingers along my clit, and a thrill ran up my spine. Marcus, growing impatient when my attention shifted from him to Ares, slid down down my body and gripped my leg. His tongue traced down my leg, starting

“No worries, you know I don’t mind waiting for you.” She quickly got dressed, opening the water portal for us to step through. I saw Ares staring in the center of the clearing, looking up at the expansive sky full of a million stars clearly visible tonight. The clouds had disappeared, and with no moon, the stars were the only thing providing us with light. Ares looked so handsome as he turned to look at us. I couldn’t help myself as I ran towards him and attacked him with another hug that he quickly reciprocated. I could hear him inhaling my scent, just as I did his. That sandalwood smell always gets to me, easily arousing me. I love this man so much.

So even if I wanted to meet Ares, it was impossible to escape their observant eyes. Later at night, I was laying on my back. The sky seemed to growl occasionally, sending announcement of an early rain. Suddenly, I wasn't liking my room anymore. Although nothing changed of my favourite decoration, my mind screamed someone's absence in my room. Ares! I missed his smug look whenever he wanted to be playful. Letting out a long sigh, I managed to close my eyes, hoping that a long night's sleep would take my worries away. Before I could consume into my sleep deeper, a knocking sound jolted me up from sleep.
