Her soft tanned skin glimmering in the sunlight. She was truly beautiful. I could smell her. I knew it was her. And I was horridly confused. I followed the scent, almost unwillingly, deep into the heart of the woods. I saw her body go through the pain staking first shift. The sickening crack of her ribs, her knees inverting as the jeans she wore shredded effortlessly aware from them. Her falling forward, paws out-stretched, exhausted. I shifted before she saw me. But she could smell me, and she knew I wasn’t Gavin.

She repeats over and over, shaking. I watch Wilder stand up to help her, but she bolts away from him, running from the house. “Mom!” I call, but she's gone. Wilder stands up and takes the parcel from my hands. He lays it on the table, staring at it. “It better not be drugs!” He growls angrily.

He was sniffing the air and looking left and right. Before I could ask him what the matter was, he lifted me again and started running through the woods. "Where are we going?" I asked, but I didn't need to wonder about why we were running anymore when I heard them coming. We got to a clearing in the woods that had a tiny cave. Oscar placed me in it and shifted back to his werewolf form. In less than two minutes, the other wolves had arrived. "Hand that girl over, Alpha Wilde." I heard one of them say. I knew now that the blonde knew him well because she called him Alpha too. His full name must have been Mr Alpha Oscar Wilde. I wondered why he hid the Alpha part.

As werewolves they were very particular about him getting too close to humans, to avoid anyone from knowing the truth about him. As Nicole got out of bed, she decided to take a short walk inside the woods. Even though Henry warned her against leaving the cabin, her curiosity would not let her stay back. Just a few meters and she began feeling a bit weak and dizzy, she initially ignored it but soon her legs could barely sustain her body. She tripped over a log of wood and fell to the ground, hitting her head against a tree stump. In a moment, she had flashes of what seemed to be her memories but most confusing of all was that she could not recognise any of them.

Her sky-blue eyes drilled holes behind Hakan’s head, flashing the three muscular men a smirk whenever their eyes would wander over to where she was. “Then, I’ll be leaving Richard in charge while I go out to the city. Check the borders, I’ve been hearing talks about rogue wolves roaming around the forest from our hunters.” The man called Richard stepped up before bowing his head, as he received orders from his alpha. The three burly men left immediately when Hakan dismissed the group, turning around to face Skye with her arms crossed and looking bored.

Skyla slapped her cheeks to stay awake. She went inside the woods. She tried to run, but could hardly walk. She leaned her body against the tree and heaved, "Ruby, Ruby are you there?! I need you! Please wake up!" Skyla was calling her wolf. The last she had heard from her wolf was five weeks ago. She released her hands cupping the tree and reached for her temples. Pressing them gently with her fingers, she pleaded, "Ruby, I need you! It's only you who could help me cross these woods, to make it to the exam hall!"

But I was on the wrong side of the woods. I should have pulled out my phone and called security and asked them to pick me up. But then the wind fluttered, whipping around between the trees and lashing at the strands of hair around my face…. And the scent of that thing came with it. The Night Walker. It was here. Finally. After weeks of fruitless hunting, it was finally back—and that scent was warm. Fresh on a cold wind. I didn’t even hesitate. Throwing my jacket to the side of the path, I ripped off my shoes and threw them after it, then sprinted into the woods, whistling for Ralf.

“I remember going into the apartment to find our mate, then everything was dark, then we woke up in Bronx’s arms.” “I don’t think it was a possession like Doctor Nolan said. Yee Naaldlooshii took me somewhere. I think he separated our spirits. I don’t know how he did it, but he took me to a place between dimensions.” I pull the dagger on my thigh out of its sheath. “And he gave me something.” “Gave you something? Why in Zeus’s name would a skin walker give you anything?” “As a fucked up thank you.” I take a deep breath and hold the tip of the dagger to my palm. “Brace yourself.”

Yet she’s fawning over the groaning Dee. Fine. I’ll finish this shit myself. Walking deeper into the forest I found their tragic little camp. Sleeping out in the elements, the stench of rotting flesh and misery rising up. Grant yowls first, one of his leg’s still hog-tied to his arms. The other leg is missing. At some point Skylar has performed a home-made amputation. His grey eyes are desperate. “Kill me. Please,” is what I think he’s saying, except he’s missing a tongue so it’s just desperate shouting. Whether he wants me to or not is largely irrelevant, I’ve come to fulfil a task tonight.

This was not the kind of welcome I’d anticipated. Then I saw her—Skylar—her usually vibrant energy now subdued as she cradled her son in her arms. My heart clenched at the sight of her cowering near a fallen tree, a rogue looming over her with deadly intent. Before I could move to help, a flash of fur blurred past me, and I saw Grey—his wolf form tearing into the rogues with feral determination. . When Grey reached Skylar, she was already bleeding, her abdomen slashed open by the rogue’s claws.
