(POV: ALEXANDER THORNE) After restraining the advance of my own body and denying us both the final consummation of that night, I did not allow her to get off that bed immediately. I pulled the little bird's full body against my bare chest, covering us both with booth seven's dark sheet. She was exhausted, her breathing gradually returning to its normal rhythm as she settled into the crook of my arms. Blake sat with his back pressed against the cushions, one strong arm wrapped tightly around my shoulders, holding me close to his side. I closed my eyes, listening to the steady, rhythmic thud of his heart. The quiet room, the warm blanket, and the sound of his breathing washed away all my tiredness and anxiety. Within twenty minutes, my breathing slowed, and I fell into a deep, peaceful sleep in his arms. I didn't know then that Blake stayed awake in the dark, staring out the window at the flickering city lights. I didn't know he was looking down at my sleeping face, I looked small and defenseless to him in the dim light, free from the fear that followed me all week.

I suggested. "Okie dokie," he responded with his signature charming smile. He released me from his embrace and closed his eyes to sleep. I picked up the book from the bedside table and resumed reading on page 20. While reading I'm also listening to Alpha Jett's gentle breathing. He fell asleep fast. I enjoyed reading the book. Time passes quickly. I checked the time on my phone. It was already 11:45. Time to perform the ritual. I put the book on the side table.
