I guess that was the bed he was laying me on. I felt my stilettos taken off from my feet and the next thing, stiff clothing covered my body and I writhed, turning to sleep on my side. I heard footsteps walking away from me and then the sound of the closing door. Immediately I heard the sound of the closing door, I opened my eyes staring at the door with a stern face as my face slowly scanned through the spacious room I was sleeping in.

I forced myself, but I could only take three bites. Percival wasn't pleased, but he didn't say anything. The maids took away the wooden tray with the plates and leftovers. So I got ready to sleep. I felt tired but not sleepy. I kept tossing in bed without minding Percival. I was desperate for sleep because it might help me forget the pain—even just for a little while. I suddenly felt a hand holding my foot. When I looked down, I saw Percy. "A foot massage used to relax my mother," he said as he began massaging my foot gently.

They are like the siblings I always wanted. My shoes were still on my feet, I didn’t have time to take them off, so I closed my eyes to sleep. Last night, I didn’t sleep well, you know, because I was too excited about the thanksgiving festival and couldn’t sleep it off. Instead of cold ground I felt something feathery rubbing my feet. I looked down and found a pair of soft slippers. Without any thought, I slipped into them. They are soft and I feel like I'm walking wearing feathers and I will fly anytime.

I replied. After that, we sat close together on the floor, sharing what she’d packed; canned beans and strips of dried meat. Neither of us said much because we were too exhausted and before long we were lying down, a small blanket pulled over us. Sleep came easy, and so did morning. The next thing I knew, faint morning light was slipping through the cracks in the walls, brushing softly across my face. Then something jabbed my foot. Pain shot through my ankle, dragging me halfway out of sleep.

Because of that, she was finally able to awaken the next morning… Feeling like she had just woken from a thousand-year nap, she groggily muttered, “Legs… Numb…” Stirring awake when he heard that, he walked over to her and said, “The children insisted on sleeping by your feet… I’ll move them away so that blood can flow into your legs again.”

My days were wrapped in light. But my nights… seemed to belong to something else. Lately, I’d wake up feeling like I hadn’t slept at all. The first time I noticed the soil under my fingernails, I thought maybe I’d knocked over one of the experimental plants I kept in my house in my sleep. The second time, there was dirt on my feet, fine and cool, as though I’d been walking barefoot outside. I remember sitting on the edge of my bed, staring at the marks on the floor and whispering, “You’ve been sleepwalking again, Jean.”
