the voice demanded and Gianna swore she heard the stomp of a foot. “I will. Just give me five more minutes,” Gianna said tiredly. She almost smiled when she heard the sound of footsteps moving away from the bed. Success. Now I can sleep a little more, she thought just as what felt like a wave of ice cold water crashed down onto her soaker her and her bed.

I don't want them to worry about me. I tried getting home and it was then I noticed that I had sore feet and throat. It had told on me since I stood for over four hours. It wasn't easy. It was exhausting too. I got up on my feet and limped to the bathroom. I removed my clothes and made my way to the shower. I took my bath and it was all okay. I felt relaxed even though I knew that I wasn't going to get any sleep tonight. I would watch over them without them knowing. If I make them know, they wouldn't sleep knowing that I am not sleeping.

My room had one small table lamp still lit on low across the room nearest the door. My dream had been so vivid, the vision of my friend calling to me, her pleas for help. I began to remember everything that had transpired only a few hours ago and figured that all had left to find Bridgette as everything was silent now. I took a deep breath and exhaled as I swing my legs from under the covers and place my soles onto the hardwood floor. It took a moment for me to remember that I had cut up my feet only hours earlier and alarmed I lifted my right leg back over my thigh and examined the sole of my feet closely. I felt the slightly rough wall as I took small steps towards god knows what. A few steps in, I ran into a coffee table and stubbed my toe. "Ow, fucking piece of shit, owwww." whispering in pain. "God how great my fucking luck is." jumping up and down, holding onto my foot. To make the situation even better, I ran into a bunch of other things too, but not hard enough to make any noticeable sound, thank god. I was so determined to find something I could sleep on, and if not, I'll just end up sleeping on the floor.

He gave me a small smile before heading off into the night. The next morning, I woke up to a debilitating pain in my feet. It was as if someone had driven hot iron spikes through them. The agony was so intense that I wanted to scream, but no sound came out. Tears sprang to my eyes as I tried to move, but my feet refused to obey. I couldn't even crawl to the door when the delivery of food and supplies arrived as Kaden had promised. The knock on the door was followed by the soft thud of the package being placed outside, but I couldn't bring myself to retrieve it. The pain was overwhelming.

"How long are you going to stay mad? I'll take my medicine, okay? If it makes you feel better, tie me up so I don't sleepwalk." She acted like treating her sleepwalking was some kind of gift for me. I couldn't help but scoff. She fought me every time I urged her to take her medication. Yet she obeyed Julian's every word. I remembered the first time I met her parents. Julian was there too. I thought nothing of it, assuming they were just close friends. That night, Wendy sleepwalked and found herself standing on the bridge over a river. Julian and I reached out to her as we shouted her name frantically.

It took him only a couple seconds, but he was wide awake and screaming in no time.

She pulled out a can of peach soda, cracked it open, took one sip… and promptly laid down flat with the can still in hand. I blinked. “Are you… going to sleep like that?” “Mm-hmm,” she mumbled, eyes already closed. “Horizontal living. Very underrated.” “You’re wearing boots.” “They keep the nightmares away.” I stared at her for a full ten seconds, trying to decide if she was joking. She didn’t move. Didn’t even open her eyes. And just like that, I realized that I had no idea how I was going to survive this. Things were about to get really sane.

And when I was completely exhausted, I lasped into a sleep deeper than I’ve ever known. I was woken up too soon my the clanging sounds of the cage being opened. Two men grabbed me by the shoulders before I could even register what was going on and threw me out of the cage and onto the floor. I realized I had landed at someone’s feet as I glimpsed the pointed toes of the shoes right in front of my face. I groaned from the collision with the floor before looking up at the person at whose feet I was lying. “Did you have a good sleep?” asked Rose. “I doubt it.”
