I pushed him away, about to head out when she said in a squeaky, pesky voice, “ Who do you think you are to leave when I'm not done with you?” I looked at her, looking at those fingers that clutched to the hem of my clothes in disdain, then I pried them off before dusting my clothes. I smiled. It was a slow, mocking laughter as I said, pointing at myself then at the crowd that had gathered. I said it in a sinister, aggressive manner, “ All of you! You all are fools, bunch of idiots.” They were just about to protest, scream that I had called them idiots but I placed my finger on my lips to show silence and they did, they obeyed as they kept quiet and watched me, I snickered,

“You claim you want what’s best for her, but you despise him. You think you’re so different from me? You’re just on the other side of the same prison cell. You’re trying to pick the lock with a bomb.” His jaw tightened. A nerve pulsed beneath his eye. For a long moment, he didn’t respond. The silence stretched, charged and fragile. Then he let out a slow, quiet breath, and the smile that followed was hollow, utterly devoid of its usual malice. “Then maybe,” he said, the words barely a whisper, “I’m just as much of an idiot as you are.”

On the other hand, the three boys sneered and were even more convinced that Jake was seriously sick in the head by watching him act like this. However, just as one of them was about to open his mouth to mock him, Jake talked first. The smile was still on his lips, making him look extremely gentle and handsome, but the words coming out of his mouth sent shivers down all four people's spines.

He looked like he wanted to say something else, in fact I could actually see the words right on his lips, but then they disappeared. Neither of us spoke, the silence stretched. My nerves immediately decided they hated me, "Well., have a great day," I offered a polite smile, before my brain could embarrass me any further, I turned and practically escaped into the building. *************** Apparently, I spent the next twenty minutes smiling like an idiot. I didn't know this until Sarah stopped beside my desk and stared. "Why are you smiling like that?" I looked up; "Like what?" "Like someone just handed you a winning lottery ticket."

The front doors swooshed open and were slammed shut, followed by loud thuds which were supposed to be footsteps, coming closer towards the dining room. "There's the missing child."
