Chasing Liberty
everyone asks in unison.
The scene around me swirls as it changes. Before I could even open my eyes, I begin to cough. Smoke drowning my lungs. I try to open my eyes. Smoke burns, I squint the best I can to try and get some bearings. I crawl along the ground, trying to escape the smoke. I could feel the ground burning my flesh as I went. Something smelt foul, like burning hair. I prayed it wasn’t, but deep down I think I knew it was. I could hear people begging and pleading all around me. I was suffocating, the more I coughed the more out of breath I felt. I coughed so hard I dry heaved, causing me to gulp in a large breath of smoke. Smoke filled with the burning remains of hair and flesh. M
