With a determined motion, she brought the rim to her lips and swallowed in one swift, desperate gulp. Inhaling a deep, shuddering breath, she exhaled slowly, her chest rising and falling with the weight of her emotions. She used the back of her hand to wipe her nose, the gesture a mixture of both necessity and an attempt to regain composure. The faint sound of her sniffling lingered, like the echoes of a storm that had passed, yet left traces of its presence.
