It tumbled away from her, shrieking, and the moment it hit the ground, its body collapsed—dry and brittle—crumbling into ash.
Selene’s eyes grew wide as she sat up. She stared at her hands in disbelief. The white smoke still clung to her skin, but now she could see it clearly. Her gaze snapped to her companions. Smoke covered them too, but each carried a different hue.
Those from the Blue Snow pack burned with shifting colors. Alfred and the teens, though—Selene’s group—carried the same white shade as hers, but theirs barely surfaced, like it was struggling to break through.
