I’m about to breathe my own sigh of relief when a familiar, dastardly voice calls through the darkness, “That’s not the only thing that was waiting for you boys.”
His Pinewood scent shoots up my nose before I even spot his smug face, and a low growl rumbles out of the group.
“Everest,” we say in unison.
He appears through the fog, his remaining betas like a shield in front of him. They snarl at us as their Alpha looks on victoriously.
“Well, well…” Everest starts, his snakey eyes flickering between our group. “I would say I’m glad to see you all, but I don’t think we really have the time for lies.”
