“Hey, Frasco! Is a bag of rice heavier than a bottle of tequila?”
Diego laughed with them, but inside, something tightened. Shame. Anger. I was a king once.
He retreated to a shadowed corner of the mill, pulled a small knife from his pocket, and drew it across his palm. Blood welled—dark, shimmering. He let a few drops fall to the dirt.
His eyes shifted to crimson. Power, cool and electric, flooded his veins.
He stood.
This time, he lifted two bags. One in each arm. He walked smoothly, steadily. The workers fell silent, watching.
