Anything to fight the cries. I plug my phone in, open Spotify and put on the gym playlist that is as ancient and untouched as most fossils. Van Halen’s ‘Jump’ fills the room. But the cries still squeeze my brain, poke my heart. They’re a long, sustained pitch. I grab the eyeball, open the curtains, then the window, and throw the eyeball out of my life. I slam the window shut and close the curtains, but the cries and screams continue. “Stop it!” I open the minibar and drink everything in there. Gin, whisky, wine. All of it.

But he didn't say anything but helped her to the yellow faded couch in the living room.

I giggled, and the next thing that happened shocked me more. Tears cascaded down his cheeks like a stormy rainfall. With each sob that escaped his lips, the weight of his anguish filled the room, suffusing the air with a palpable sense of grief. The sound of his cries echoed through the empty spaces, a haunting melody of pain and loss that reverberated in the silence. {Flashback} {The night of the last full moon} Cries. Miserable, painful cries. He thought he could handle it, but fuck! Every fiber in him was on fire. He wanted to reach out and stop them. She roared. Joshua is looking at Mel in shock. Clearly, he didn’t know his sister had a talent. He nodded, and Jaxon was crying. The fear in his eyes breaks my heart. I can’t look in that window right now. I can’t bear to see how Jude may look right now. Mel claps her sonic boom once, and the walls shake…twice, the brick around the doorframe cracks…thrice, and the frame is broken completely. On the fourth clap, the door falls to the ground, and Jaxon snarls viciously, as does Joshua.
