The ropes are burning my wrists. "I'm close!" Alex shouts. "Mia!" "Yes! Yes! Echo!" "Now!" Echo commands. "Release!" I scream, my body bowing off the mattress, ready to shatter into a million pixels. Then— Zap. Silence. The music cuts out. The vibrator dies instantly inside me. The amber lights flicker violently and then go dark. Everything inside me wants to scream and faint. Tears bite the back of my eyes. “I didn't do anything,,,” I can barely hear my own voice. I couldn't take to compromise those people who helped me in my rock bottom that I had no other choice but to succumb. I couldn't determine how long we were talking because I lost track of time. My mind was in haywire as my tears fell non-stop. "Please," I pleaded for one last time but it didn't work. "Mommy," I heard my son called, and right away, I wiped my tears. Grandma Suzzane picked him up and carried him towards me, "Thanks Grandma,".

“There’s nothing to be done. No medicine. No fight. It just… is.” I opened my mouth to ask how, to ask why, to demand she fight it—but I felt it then. A hot, stupid wetness tracking down my cheeks. I was crying. I never cried. I swiped at my face angrily with the back of my hand, turning away so she wouldn’t see. That’s when I heard it. Howling. Not from one direction. From everywhere. A chorus of long, low, beautiful cries that lifted into the night air. It wasn’t a threat. It was a song.

I looked back one last time—at the house of glass, at the husband of iron, and at the man who tried to save a ghost. “The performance is over,” I whispered to the waves, and then I let the next swell take me under. The water was a crushing, silent weight. Underneath the surface, the sounds of the party—the clinking glass, my mother’s shrill laughter, the men’s hollow arguments—were replaced by a rhythmic, heavy thrum. For a second, I let the darkness hold me. No contracts. No spare tire labels. Just the cold, honest sea.

the voice giggled furiously. Emily rolls her eyes. She walks up to the bathroom sink, splashing her face with water. She figures if she ignores it, it'll go away sooner or later. The sound bounced off the walls, creating a long echo across the mansion Emily hugs her knees to her chest, perched down on the living room floor. Rocking back and forth, as tears rush down her cheeks "please," she whispers "leave me alone"
