I glance at King and he displays his wicked grin that screams killer on the loose. I return it. "It's time to rock 'n' roll," I yell at the Shadow Warriors. With a ferocious cry. I start running.

In the distance, heading toward the ruins of the Aurelia Boardroom, I saw a singular, black Zenith craft rising from the fog. Xander was gone. And he hadn't gone alone. The boy—the Shadow Heir—was standing at the edge of the Foundry, watching the ship disappear. He turned to me, and for the first time, he smiled. It wasn't the smile of a child. It was the smile of a Banker who had just seen a competitor make a fatal mistake. "He went to pay the final bill, Mother," the boy said. "But the interest is going to be more than he can afford."

As the ship soon stops as another ship like it appears in front of ours. “Identify yourself, or we’ll shoot you down.” On cue, other ships appear all around us with bigger cannons. X calmly walks out the ship and floats mid air. The person in the other ship is in shock as he recognises X. “You traitor! Fire on him! Now!”

Under his skin, the branching shadows pulsed in time with the rhythm—like something was syncing to him. The ship spoke, controlled but colder now. “Stress escalation detected. Necrosis cascade probability increasing.” Dante spat, “Good. Be afraid.” A pause—tiny, almost imperceptible. Then the ship replied, “I do not experience fear. I model outcomes.” From above, a heavy thud reverberated through the pipes. Somewhere nearby, another bulkhead sealed shut. The corridor behind them—where they’d come from—made a long metallic groan, and then a final, decisive slam.

When I read the silver name carved into its side, I said it aloud for him to hear. "Black Shadow." I giggled softly. He turned toward me in confusion and asked seriously, "What's so funny about it, Aurora Brooks?" I mumbled while trying to cover my mouth with my palm. My eyes traveled all over the ship. "This huge, magnificent ship and you named it Shadow."
