ADRIAN I woke up to the steady hum of pain in my ribs and shoulder. Not the sharp, white-hot agony from before, but more like a dull and insistent ache that reminded me I was still alive, but just barely. Even breathing hurt so much, and I gasped for air.

Her fingers clenched the bedsheet beneath her without realizing it. Then the pain hit. A dull, heavy throb spread across her shoulder like a bruise that had decided to wake up with her. It wasn’t sharp anymore, not like it had been last night when her body had slammed into the wall and the breath had been ripped straight out of her lungs. Now it pulsed steadily under her skin, a deep bruise blooming beneath bone. Dakota swallowed and shifted slightly. Instant regret.

She was looking at me, a half-smile on her lips, to see how I would react. I reached for her lovely breasts with both hands. As it turned out, that wasn't such a good idea. My shoulder and collarbone both protested; that wasn't the ideal position for either of them. A twinge of pain spoiled the sensation for me. I gave up that attempt, and relaxed my left side, letting my shoulder rest on the bed. My right arm wasn't hurt, but when I extended it, I still felt a twinge on my left, in my collarbone. To make matters worse, the feeling in my injured hand was mixed, at best - both pleasure and discomfort.

My chest felt crushed, and every attempt to inhale sent sharp pain through my ribs. “Breathe,” Darren said, his hands on my shoulders. “Just breathe. You got the wind knocked out of you.” Slowly, painfully, air began to return to my lungs. Each breath hurt, but at least I could manage it. “Something hit me,” I gasped out. “My side.” Darren’s hands moved carefully over my ribs, checking for damage. I winced when he pressed on the right side. “Probably bruised, maybe cracked,” he said. “But I don’t think anything’s broken.”

He was coming. Fast. The pain in my left shoulder throbbed relentlessly as I struggled to catch my breath. I fled the chaos erupting in the hotel where we had been staying. The smell of blood and flesh clung to me like a curse—one I feared might haunt me until my final breath.

“He took after you ran.” “Oh.” I sighed, looking down. All of a sudden, I got a sharp pain in my heart. It gradually got worse to where I couldn’t hold in the scream for any longer. It felt like I had been stabbed with a silver dagger. If it wasn’t for Robbie I would have fallen. He gathered me in his arms and sat down holding me on his lap as I doubled over in pain holding my chest. “Liz, what’s going on?” Robbie asked in a panic.

I felt a burning pain in my chest, especially on the left side. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to move my hand towards where I felt the stabbing sensation, but I couldn't move. I moved my fingers to make sure I could still use them and groaned in pain as I did so, not understanding why it hurt so much. I tried to recall everything that had happened, but they were just fleeting flashbacks that came to mind.

ROSE My head is pounding and throbbing and it feels extremely heavy. My entire body hurts, but nothing is quite as bad as my chest. It is by far, the worst pain I have. It is so hard to breathe. And I can’t seem to move either of my arms. My left feels like it is tied up, but the right one has this nice warm tingling sensation moving up from my hand. It doesn’t feel tied up like the left, but like a weight is holding it down.

' All of a sudden, I felt an excruciating, sharp pain in my left shoulder. The ache making me drop to my knees as I slowly bring my hands to the area. Jahred runs over and takes his dress suit off, to only drape it over Fonz. I was now being yanked by my hair, indicating that my body must be in shock and dropped my barrier shield down. Jahred then rips out a small dagger from between my shoulder and arm pit. the blood filling my once white blouse. I in so much pain, I couldn't even talk. The air in my lungs were disappearing, my knees were sore and my stomach was cramping.

The blade. A sharp breath escaped from my lips. I honestly would have thought that it had all been a bad dream but then I was struck with a massive pain that shot through me. It stretched from the top of my head and traveled all the way down my body, settling mainly in my lower chest and right side of my face. I tried to push myself up but immediately cringed at the unexpected pain that spiraled in my wrist. I attempted to place more of my weight on my other arm and had better luck.
