After leaving the small cavern entrance, they took a boat and followed a river path to the far end of the cavern, where a sulfurous stream flowed out of the rocky surface near the geothermal plant. Warm, greenish water swirled in a bubbling pool and flowed into ravines in the cavern’s jagged wall. Etched into the embankment near the rifts was an entrance to a shaft, about fifteen feet wide and ten feet high. Cavin pointed at it. “We’re just in time,” he mumbled. “Supper is near.”
