The room felt colder, emptier, and no matter how tightly I held myself, it didn’t help.
Eventually, exhaustion took over. My cries grew softer, my breathing slowed, and my heavy eyelids began to close.
With tear-stained cheeks and a shattered heart, I cried myself to sleep.
The next morning, soft knocking pulled me from sleep. My eyes felt swollen, my head heavy from all the crying.
Before I could respond, the door creaked open, and Hailey stepped in, carrying a tray of food and a small bag.
"Eat," she said flatly, placing the tray on the bedside table. The smell of eggs and toast filled the room, but my stomach twisted at the thought of eating.
