Waiting. And whatever it is, it’s getting closer.

My mouth moves, words come out and before I realize it, I say yes. Now all I need to do is make sure that I am nowhere close to Blake tonight because honestly, I could end up losing it and doing something stupid with him. Note to myself. Stay. Away. From. Blake.

“Stay close and don’t even think of going off on your own.” She nodded briskly, “Time. How long before the big guys get here?” “Ten minutes tops.” XXX

He moved a little more closer so that they were only inches apart. Sia’s heart started beating erratically, and her breath became labored. R brushed away a lock of her hair behind her ears and said, “Okay, tell me your condition. I will consider it.” Sia shook her head to clear it and said, “You will stay two feet away from me while you tell your story. I can’t focus when you are standing so close.” He leaned closer and whispered, “I don’t know why you can’t focus…” He lingered close to her neck for a while and then moved away suddenly.

It felt like a little piece of comfort, even when we had to be apart. “I’ll be near you,” he said, and his voice was full of care. “I’ll make sure you are always safe. I’ll talk to you when we can, and I’ll be there the second you need me. But when there are other people around, we have to keep our distance. We have to act like normal siblings, like nothing is wrong. That is the only way we can keep this going, and keep us safe. If we do this right, then we can stay together, no matter what.”

I growl, stepping closer to her. She steps back, staying out of reach.

He ended the call and turned toward her, his gaze settling on her face as if gauging how much she had heard. “You’re up early,” he said. “I never slept,” she replied. His eyes flicked briefly to the bed, then back to her. “Because of last night?” “Yes.” He nodded once. “That’s fair.” She waited for more. An explanation. An apology. Something. But Adrian moved past her instead, retrieving his jacket from the chair. “I need you to stay close today,” he said. “Close to what?” she asked. “To me.” The words were calm, but the implication was not.

My voice was quiet but steady. “On the floor. Not in my bed. Not near me. You stay on the floor. You keep your distance. You don’t touch me. You don’t talk about us. You don’t talk about love. You just… watch the door. And in the morning you leave. You leave and you don’t come back.”

“Without pressure. Without escalation.” Rowan shifts his weight, grounding himself. “Tell us what you need.” I hesitate—not because I don’t know, but because saying it aloud makes it real. “I want closeness,” I say. “But not hunger. Not intensity that tips into loss of control.” Rowan exhales, relief and restraint tangled together. “Okay.” Lucien inclines his head. “Define closeness.” I look at him, grateful for the precision. “Presence,” I say. “Touch that doesn’t lead anywhere. Attention without expectation.”

I asked quietly. He shrugged a little. “Whatever you want to happen.” “What do you want.” Ronan looked at me for a long moment, like he was choosing his words carefully. “I want to stay close to you,” he said. “Not only at night. Not only when you feel scared. Just… close.” Something inside me softened. It felt like something I had been afraid to want for so long. “I want that too,” I said. He nodded, slow and gentle. “Good.”
