Second Light
When I think back to it, the words I said back then just make the sting of being wrong even sharper today.
I pulled up to Thomas's big house pretty quickly, and the butler and a bunch of servants were already waiting by the door.
They looked really surprised when I got out of the car.
"Ms. Canfield, we're here to carry your bags. Where are they?" they asked.
I just said, "They're all gone. Burned to crisp."
Then I looked straight into Thomas's deep, dark eyes.
He smirked a little and said with an icy laugh, "You were so sure Eric would never do anything wrong. What do you have to say now?"
