A huge black steeled-gate with beautiful angels design is standing at the side of the road. “We’ve arrived.” He states. I look at him with a mixture expression between happy and surprise. He giggles. I can see a security post near the gate. The security guards seem like they’re pressing something and then the gate open automatically. We get down from the car just as Cain’s car has entered the yard.

To the rest of Team Red, they probably look like cowards or losers but they couldn’t have cared less. The front gate, like the rear one, is locked, chained and made immobile by rust, but there’s a narrow entrance/ exit on the side, next to the empty guard booth. A couple of functional, Victorian-style streetlamps flank the gate and bathe the entrance in welcome, if disorienting, illumination. It’s the only part of the park that’s lit – literally and figuratively. Squinting in the sudden brightness, Kate sees Westland Vista’s shuttle bus where Colonel Anders has parked it.

We were able to leave for this last-minute trip because of their help. The convoy slowed before the towering set of wrought iron gates that seemed to stretch endlessly upwards. Gothic spires pierced the sky, and then the emblem of the crescent moon intertwined with thorns was engraved into the steel. My breath hitched to see such a unique entry gate. The car stopped, and before I could blink, men in dark uniforms opened the gates for us. Carlos stepped out first, his tall figure commanding even the faint lantern glow. I followed him, clutching my dress as the cool night air brushed my skin. Then my jaw nearly hit the cobblestone as the sight before me was illuminated by more lanterns.

The night was humid and heavy, filled with tension. Outside SK Institute, Maya's heart thudded like a drum. The gate loomed ahead, its sleek black bars lit by overhead floodlights. It was just past eight, but the compound buzzed with quiet life—lights on, shadows shifting, guards posted like statues.

A canopy of verdant leaves looms above, curious beams of sunlight sift through the leaves as if trying to glimpse us, new visitors. On the horizon, a Hades-black gate soars and lengthens in height. I spot a security booth in the left-hand corner in front of the entry, two armed guards manning the booth are outfitted in a burgundy uniform. Dad slows the car to a halt, right before the tall iron gates. Both bristle and unwelcoming with a row of wrought thorns on its head, except for the letter moulded into the centre. A. Dad’s window slides down halfway and soon a man’s head appears behind it, a military-looking gun positioned across his chest, so large it occupies both hands.

He couldn’t tell which hurt more. By dawn, he reached the peak. And there it was. A door that wasn’t a door. It hovered in the air—a curtain of light that pulsed like a heartbeat, glowing softly against the black stone. Its surface rippled as though made of living glass, bending the air around it into a perfect, trembling silence. The Echo Gate. Soren’s breath caught. His pulse thundered in his ears. He reached out, trembling, but before his fingers could touch the light, the air fractured—splintering like a mirror under too much pressure.

Beautiful engravings of wolves and leaves were etched into the metal, creating shadows that seemed to flicker and move in the torchlight. The gates themselves were enormous, easily three times Maya’s height, and looked like they were forged from solid steel, with brass accents that gleamed like gold. As they stepped closer, the gates slowly swung open with a gentle creak, revealing a path lined with lanterns that bathed everything in a warm, golden light. The air was thick with the smell of woodsmoke and damp earth, and Maya couldn’t help but feel the deep sense of history and tradition that radiated from the pack’s territory. Outside, the screaming vanguard of the Lightmaw army was just ten feet away from the threshold. The massive iron portcullis violently plummeted. Ronan dove backward, sliding across the freezing cobblestones just as the heavy iron spikes of the gate slammed brutally into the earth, crushing the thick ice and sending a concussive shockwave through the courtyard. The Lightmaw soldiers crashed violently into the impenetrable steel from the outside, their furious roars muffled by the heavy iron. We were safe. The gates held. But as I lay trembling against the cold stone of the walkway, completely overwhelmed by the horrific, life-altering weight of what I had just done, I knew the true war had on

“Anything cheap. I’m not exactly thriving right now, hence the hunt. Shouldn’t we go now? You guys are in a hurry, right?” Jai nodded. “Yes. Let’s continue.” The three of them then left the trees and entered in the main road, then they walked to the gate. The gate itself was quite large, and looming over them. It was probably around fourteen meters upward but it was still visibly smaller than Aeronvein’s giant silver gate. This gate didn’t look like it was made from silver, but probably a lighter tone of high quality bronze. There was one wooden pillar on each side of the bronze gate that was painted red in color.

It wasn’t actually hard to find it, since all the houses in DaggerStone were quite small and boring, the only one that stood out was actually at the outskirts and its huge roof could be seen from far away. We finally made it there, stopping in front of two huge iron gates, each decorated with a huge S in the middle. I stopped the engine, intending to get out and look for someone around there, but got stopped in my tracks by the sudden movement of the gates, noticing they started to slowly open for us so I sat in my place, waiting to have enough space to pass through the gates, then started the engine and moved forward.
