Brandon asked, reaching for my hand. I gave it to him, even though part of me wanted to keep my arms folded in defiance. “Awful.” There were no two ways about it. “Oh, I’m sure it wasn’t that bad,” he said, trying to be reassuring. A woman on the TV screamed as a clown jumped out of the shadows, and I realized they were watching the new remake of Stephen King’s It. I had wanted to see it, but ironically my mom said I shouldn’t watch it because I’d have nightmares. If she only knew what I see in real life. I don’t have to listen to her anymore, but I had avoided the theater while it was playing just to be somewhat more compliant than I had been of late. It was an easy place to give in.

The only thing missing is a bag of nachos. The movies themselves are veritable classics, especially The Bride of Frankenstein which is in black and white. Most of them are horror movies, as in written by Stephen King or directed by him. Kate would’ve watched them any day with the Bali Girls but, being alone and in an unsavory cellar, she chickens out on Poltergeist.

I don't stick around to find out what they are talking about. I run up stairs and grab my backpack, I still don't have many clothes we were still waiting on my delivery. My head feels like it'll explode and I shut my eyes and count sheep. I pray that the class will be over soon. So when it ended, I grabbed my laptop and my books and was ready to disappear. “Stay behind, Miss Sabrina.” My spine went rigid at the disturbingly calm voice. What did he do now? I stepped to the side and let the others walk past me. “We'll see you later, okay?” Gigi and Larry gave my shoulder my squeeze as if to say ‘Survive.’ They probably thought this was a scolding for sleeping through class.
