Felix replied. “Awwwn……. You should try being a motivational speaker” Paul cooed and everyone burst into laughter again. “You guys get going, I’m staying tonight” Stephen said as he turned to Tolani. “Why? I’ll be fine alone” Felix said and Stephen chuckled “I don’t trust you with those books there” Stephen replied pointing to the stack of books Paul had brought for him. “Besides, Kola stayed with you yesterday, we are rotating it and don’t feel so special” Stephen added and the room roared with laughter again.

Stephen looked at me warily. “I think both of you are so fucking terrified of losing each other that you’re destroying yourselves first.” Silence. Then he spoke… “You sound like a therapist.” I snorted. “Please. I charge way more.” That finally pulled a real laugh out of him and God, he looked beautiful when he forgot to be angry. Which explained a lot, honestly. Stephen glanced sideways at me suddenly. “Why are you even talking to me?” I could’ve lied and said I felt bad or blamed Amber or pretended this was charity.

Those I had risked my life to protect, the family I had once cherished above all, all of them had betrayed me. This time, I would not make the same mistake. Richard stepped forward. Each stride was deliberate. His towering shadow fell over me, enveloping me. The air around us seemed to freeze. He did not say a word. He swung his hand with full force, slamming a harsh slap across my face. The slap sent me staggering, my lip tearing open, and blood flooding my mouth with a bitter, metallic taste.

Heath followed, heavier footsteps, eyes darting toward me then away. I closed the book softly. “Where are you coming from?” They froze. Just for a second, but it was enough. Stephan shot Heath a look that might as well have been a conversation. Heath scowled, shifting his weight, while Stephan drew in that slow, careful breath he always did when he was about to feed me something I wouldn’t like. “Brooks,” Stephan started, tone too even. I stood. “Don’t lie to me.” That stopped him.

“Praxis, such a unique name. Where did your parents get that from?” Praxis did not want to be rude, but replying will pull off so much effort. The guy spoke, apologetically, when he did not reply. “Sorry, I’m Nathan by the way. You can call me Nate for short.” After their short introduction, it was a good thing that the special announcement had finally started. A person of authority walked in front and introduced himself as the dean of the school. Then, he introduced another man who has apparently hollow eyes wearing a dark blue barangay officer’s vest that stood in front.

When Stephen finally decided to speak again, his deep voice had become even darker, colder, and entirely devoid of any human warmth. “I suggest you listen to my next words with extreme care, Victoria. Do you honestly believe you can threaten my livelihood? You seem to forget that I know far worse, far darker secrets about your life. Secrets that carry enough weight to send your body to a federal prison for the absolute rest of your natural life.” The confidence in Victoria’s voice shifted slightly over the line. When she spoke again, she sounded far less sure of her position. “What on earth are you talking about, Stephen?”

she replies, still maintaining her posh, British accent. No, she's not British. Not even a little. Stephanie's another one of my stepsisters, born and raised in good ol' New York. But then she spent one month in England—just one—and came back acting like she personally founded the Queen’s English. Now she says “schedule” like “shed-jool.” Of all my stepsisters, she's the least infuriating. "Steph, by any chance, have you seen my girlfriend anywhere?" I ask. "Lena? No, I haven't. But I heard she's around here somewhere."

Stephen laughed mockingly. "What are you talking about?" Quinn was confused. "You don't know? Think about it then..." Stephen said with a chuckle. "Listen Stephen, I don't know what you are talking about, and I don't want to know. But if eventually, I find out that you are behind my daughter's disappearance, then get ready to be destroyed by me." The Quinn that was speaking at that moment sounded entirely different. Her voice was cold and monotonous. Stephen flinched at the other end of the line.

with that I leave her standing there. As I walk back to the room Zach is standing at the door he heard everything I don't care " We have to talk " his voice low sounding like the shy teenager I use to know " Talk Zach " Not here okay we can talk when we get home" he seems so sincere if I didn't know better I will think he's not crazy.

He gave me a glass of water, I drank it, and because of clumsiness the water drip from my mouth but he wiped it off immediately. “Ehem, so sweet ah!” “Ehem there’s someone here. The two of you, don’t you know how to respect?” I looked at the two who spoke, Flyn and John. “Hello!” I smiled at them and was about to wave, but Stephen suddenly spoke. “Don’t smile at another man.” I bit my lip. “Why did you come here? It’s already night! We’re going to sleep!” “Eyy, are you two really just going to sleep??” Stephen’s friend’s smile looks like he’s thinking about something that is not good.
