Steven led the way to a booth by the window, and we settled in. As we perused the menu, I couldn't help but appreciate the much-needed distraction from the unspoken tension between us. The array of breakfast options looked delicious, and I knew I had to refuel my body before I could face the lingering questions in my mind. After a few moments, the waitress approached with a warm smile. "Good morning! Are you ready to order?" I glanced at Steven, realizing he had already made his decision. "I'll have the bacon and eggs, please," he said, his voice devoid of its usual seriousness.

The next morning when Irene went downstairs, she saw Steven on the sofa in the living room with Deborah. Spotting Irene, Steven revealed an amiable smile and asked, "Irene, did you sleep well last night?" "It was good," Irene replied plainly. "Let's have breakfast!" He's been waiting for you to have it together."

I choose to ignore them and focused on my breakfast, Steve was right I had worked up an appetite. I would never admit that to him though. Chad sat beside me, and we both ate our breakfast in silence. "I take it the missus didn't kill you last night?" Sitting at the breakfast nook and nursing a cup of tea in his hand, Steven burst into roaring laughter, earning himself a death stare from Liam. "As you can see, I'm still in one piece," he smirked at the two men as he gladly accepted a steaming espresso and the day's newspapers from Dave. "Now, if you're both done gossiping about my love life, I'd like to head to my first appointment."
