Xavier's Obsession
“Sorry, sorry. Subway was packed. Are you ready?”
I nod, even though my stomach twists with unease.
“Alright, let’s go,” she says, looping her arm through mine as if she’s afraid I might run.
We head toward 34th Street – Herald Square station, just a few blocks from the café. The sidewalks are crowded with people, everyone hurriedly moving along.
When we reach the subway entrance, I hesitate for just a second before following Talia down the stairs.
The smell of metal, sweat, and something stale fills my nose as we push past commuters. The station is loud and chaotic, filled with the screech of arriving trains and the clatter of turnstiles.
