When the Program told me I could return, I felt no joy. Only emptiness. The next time I opened my eyes, I was staring at a white hospital ceiling. Machines beeped beside me, and my throat burned as if I had been asleep for years. A nurse saw me wake and rushed over. “You’re safe,” she said. “You were caught in a dockside explosion. Sophia Lane didn’t survive.” My fingers tightened against the sheet. Sophia was dead. Before I could speak, the nurse added, “There was another survivor. A young man named Luca. He woke up this morning.”

His voice remained barely above a whisper, but it was loud enough for Ivy and Darren to hear clearly. "The apocalypse has already destroyed most supply chains. Food, medicine, fuel, weapons, and equipment are becoming harder and harder to find." He gestured toward the massive facility around them. "But places like this still contain enough resources to keep hundreds of survivors alive for months." Albert continued. "The risk is enormous as there are plenty monsters here, but so is the reward." He glanced toward the assault rifle hanging from Darren's shoulder. "Besides, our weapons have already been upgraded. They're no longer limited to firing ordinary bullets."

The smells were unfamiliar but still made my stomach churn with hunger. So this was Probet, our home for the next few days at least. I had hoped for an obvious quest-giver who would send us off on a mission. Or maybe a gossip to provide us with useful intel. More and more it felt like we would have to actually start from scratch and survive using our own strengths and skills. Unfortunately, I had never used the gym membership I got last January, and although I had thought extensively about what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse (haven’t we all?), my plans mostly relied on being able to find a motorised chainsaw.

The canteen was dimly lit, with streaks of sunlight filtering through the shattered windows, casting eerie patterns across the floor. Outside, the guttural growls and occasional shuffling of zombies served as a grim reminder of their predicament. Inside, the group of survivors huddled together, each grappling with the weight of the situation in their own way.

] The mechanical voice rang in my ears. At the same second, the power grid died. The internet cut out. Lights in the distance blinked off one by one. It felt like someone hit pause on the world. Even the rustle of leaves sounded sharp. I eased up to the booth window and looked out. Inside my old apartment stood three figures—Alan, Bella, and Dylan. Of course they'd teamed up. A loudspeaker slid out the window. Alan's voice blasted across the complex. "Everyone, the apocalypse has started. I know you're looking for protection. I've got Caucasian Shepherds, a lion, and crocodiles. Any one of them can handle zombies. If you don't want to die, come join me. However..."

Surviving my blood will start having chapters posted on a weekly basis and the first chapter is already up. He claimed the cleaver, and a cool glow shone, the sharp knife appearing in his hand. The virus vaccine was the best item he could ask for. With this vaccine, he would never have to be afraid of turning into a zombie. As for the food! Lucas was so busy being happy that he had completely forgotten about his thirst and hunger. He opened the crate hurriedly, finding milk and bread inside. Lucas gobbled them up frantically. It was good enough that he managed to stay alive in an apocalyptic world, he could not be bothered with how he looked while he ate.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, I looked out at the apartment building in the distance. Flames were shooting into the sky, and faint screams carried through the air. Linda and Tyler had hidden from the zombies by climbing into a dumpster downstairs. They were curled up in the reeking trash, shivering as they fought over half a moldy bread roll someone had thrown away. Meanwhile, I took a sip of hot soup, warmth spreading through my whole body. This was what apocalypse life was supposed to feel like. Over the next three days, I followed Duke’s guidance and swept up supplies from nearly half the city.

I shouted and coughed . I ran passed the living room only to reverse back .. My heart dropped at the sight in front of me . Mom laid on the floor in a pool of blood naked while PAPI was tied to a chair with a knife through his chest . " NOOOOOO... PAPI ...MOM... PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME ...NO NO NO NO....." I yelled and ran and got on my knees next to mom and shook her to wake up " MOM ...MOM.... PLEASE WAKE UP...I CAN'T BE ON MY OWN ... PLEASE MOM..PAPI ..PA..PA...PAPI... TAKE ME WITH YOU..." I cried out loud and cough because the fire was getting wild

It was a pot of violently bubbling chili con carne, slick with red oil. The girls hadn’t reacted in time. The scalding liquid drenched them from head to toe, coating their faces and hair. They clawed wildly at their skin, wailing in agony. It had all happened in a flash. Dominic hadn’t even processed it until everything was already over. "Call an ambulance! Hurry!" I forced panic into my voice. Dominic stammered before finally snapping out of it and dialing emergency services. The boiling red chili blistered their faces instantly. As they rubbed frantically at the burns, the skin sloughed away, exposing raw flesh beneath. It was horrifying to look at.
