Then he picked up a glass of shimmering amber liquid and took a sip. I lifted the cocktail Benjamin gave me and tried it. The taste wasn't actually as good as I expected. It had a bitter edge not unlike the alcohol I usually drank, but it carried a cool, refreshing sweetness that was much more pleasant. I took another sip and set the glass down. "Do you want to go out there and dance?"

A title soon came to mind and she answered, “Recently, I’ve been reading the book called ‘The Struggle For Sweetness’ and I found it an enjoyable read and to my liking.” A few of the young bachelors burst out in cheerful laughter. “The title of the book is called The Struggle For Sweetness? Is that right? Goodness, it seems like a book related to desert making.” Before Alicia could reply, Ash Pavard parted his lips open and said, “Hmm… Sir Killian, I think you have some sort of misunderstanding. The book is quite famous and renowTed for its humanities of sorts. It looks like you don’t know of this.”

It was so bitter! I wonder why people like drinking plain teas with no sugar. I could still taste the bitterness in my mouth, and it felt like it had also spread throughout my body. “What is it?” Rowan worriedly asked, a stark contrast to the way he was responding to Brooke just a few moments ago. “The tea is bitter,” I said, wrinkling my face at the aftertaste. “Oh yeah… I didn’t add any sweetener,” Brooke cut in, a fake smile on her face. “You don’t need it.”

Little Miss Spitfire bursts through the door again, her face pulled up in a tight grim. I am sure she is trying so hard to not scream at me. She bounces forward, stretching the cup in the air. I grab it and take a sip. “Good one.” I say, and continue typing. The coffee tastes great; the right amount of sugar fits in. Coffee is dark and bitter, but with enough sugar, it covers the bitterness so all that remains is just the sweet savour on your tongue. “Sugar is healthy.” Her voice chirps in my head, her smile flashing through my memory.

A lady with smooth skin, crimson eyes, pink thin lips, and brown shoulder-length hair stood by the door. She wore a blue bodycon dress which matched her white bohemian earrings. Teddy removed his eyes on her and faced the wall. He rolled his eyes. "Do not tell me that you are thinking about that bit**ch again" she shouted in frustration. Bitc*h? That word did not sit well with Teddy. Even though he has a lot of women around him, it's Crystal who has the crown to his heart. She is an angel to him. Calling Crystal a bitch was like daring him.

Tamara said while passing me a pair of gloves then taking out a pair for herself "this long row is obviusly ice cream we got chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, birthday cake, cookies and cream, cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, butter peacan, pistachio and cotton candy" Tamara said while going down the line and pointing at each flavor I looked as she pointed trying my best to memeorize at least one or two flavors "don't worry you'll get it, it took me a month to memorize where each flavor is" Sydney said

“I won’t get in the way of your work. Come back soon, I can’t fall asleep without you. I’m hanging up soon, bye dear.” Her continuous sweet tone and words made him feel refreshed. In the past, he hated sweet things. Even his coffee was the most bitter, most concentrated coffee available on the market worldwide. And now, he didn’t realize when it had started but he drank his coffee with a cube of sugar. He found that the fragrant coffee tasted particularly delicious when it was laced with a hint of sweetness.

She always does when she thinks I’m unraveling—as if warm tea and quiet care can fix something this deep. I cross the room and pick up the cup, the warmth seeping into my palm. I bring it to my lips and take a slow sip. It’s sweet. Too sweet. But beneath that sweetness… there’s something else. Something I can’t quite place. Bitter. Not strong enough to make me stop—but enough to make my brow furrow slightly as I swallow. “…weird,” I murmur, glancing down at the cup as if it might explain itself before shrugging it off.

And Joel wanted neither. “Do you remember the first day we met?’ he started, as their table got cleared of the second course, and their dessert of ice cream and cake arrived. Rina took a spoonful of her preferred chocolate flavor and closed her eyes as it melted on her tongue. She loved the tinge of bitterness that hid in its taste, and how it remained at the back of her throat. Weird as it sounded, since Rina was a kid, she loved to remind herself with every spoon that life was just that way – a beautiful blend of sweet and bitter.
