“I’m fine, sir. Just a lot going on right now, but I’ll get better sir.”
He nodded slowly, like he didn’t fully believe me. “Georgia, you’re one of the smartest students I have. You have so much potential. I don’t want to see you lose focus because of things happening outside this classroom.” He paused for a second, then added in a softer voice, “You’re intelligent, beautiful, and you work harder than most people here. Don’t let anyone make you forget that.”
My cheeks felt hot. The way he said it, it wasn’t just a teacher talking to a student. There was something more in his eyes. I mumbled a quick “Thank you, sir” and left the classroom before I could say anything stupid.
